Well, here we are. Another moving day is almost upon us. I’ll have been at Mobium 20 years in July and this will be our 4th move. I must say it’s a great way to clean out your own space as well as the office. Amazing how much stuff gets accumulated over a few short years — project files full of schedules, estimates, layout drafts, proposals, meeting reports, plans, routing copies, magazines, printed samples, downloaded and then printed articles, stuff gathered at conferences and meetings and then piled in a corner. Photos, awards and other industry recognition that never got put on the walls since the last move. Histories of client work that was done over 10 years ago. Why did I even save it during the last move? Business books, enough to start your own library.
This whole office move process is really down to a science now. Once you find the right firm at the right price, it’s all done the same way. Just with different kinds of containers. This time they’re orange in color. Reusable for the next customer who needs to move its office location.
There’s really not too much to worry about unless you fall asleep in one of the containers on moving day. In the immortal words of Jack Handey’s Deep Thoughts, “If you ever crawl inside an old hollow log and go to sleep, and while you’re in there some guys come and seal up both ends and then put it on a truck and take it to another city, boy, I don’t know what to tell you.”
