We’ve all got those awesome “what if” ideas, where we think of something crazy cool that should be invented. I actually just had a pretty great “what if” gadget idea yesterday! The problem with those “what if” ideas is they can’t possibly all be successful and are often times forgotten about ten minutes later. But what if there was a place you could go to share those ideas and possibly find some like-minded people who would agree with you AND help you create your crazy cool idea?
Oh wait, there is such a place! This is where the website kickstarter comes in. Kickstarter is a crowd funded resource that enables the everyday Joe (you and me) to support and fund those creative people’s ideas and to help them come to life.
One such project that piqued my interest was an iPhone dock, Moboto. According to their Kickstarter page, Moboto is an experience, where your iPhone is docked and then transformed into something else. Your electronic gizmo now has a bit of personality and character, made possible by apps, phone sensors and interactive features etc. Simply put, it’s a little person!
I would love to breathe life into my iPhone. I’m not sure what I would do if I lost my iPhone. It’s kinda sad and a bit funny, but it’s my life line and plays some part in just about everything I do on a regular basis.
I’m sad to say that the project did not meet its required funding. If only I were rich and had a lot of money to toss around! It may have been bad timing or just plain bad luck for the project, but I hope Moboto keeps asking “what if?” and finds its way onto my desk.
